A commercial building in Kings Cross with a complex brief; refurbishment of a 1950’s large ground floor commercial area to create a bookable suite, taking advantage of it’s Central London location to attract business clients looking to hire a space for formal lectures/meetings/’break out’ days, or alternatively have the potential to attract customers looking for an urban venue for weddings, dining or other celebratory functions. The suite also needed to have the potential to offer two independent meeting rooms or one large open space.
The focus of our design was on the acoustics of the volumes, introducing soft absorbent surfaces, felt, wood, a ‘floating ceilings’ of plywood and acoustic foam.
Articulating the entry through a sequence of hierarchical spaces created a sense of ceremony allowing the spaces to ‘unfold’ whilst providing options for more informal gatherings around the space.
